Action Steps:

  1. Go To www.Digg.com
    • Setup your Digg.com account.
    • Log-in and follow video instructions to submit your link.
    • When submitting your link make sure you link to the direct post page.
  2. Go To www.FeedAgg.com
    • Click on where it says Add Feed.
    • Open a new tab with your Blogger.com page and scroll to the bottom and look for Post (Atom)
    • Copy and paste the RSS Feed and submit that with FeedAgg.com submission page using instructions in the video.

Richard’s Notes:

  • Traffic is the #1 most important aspect of any site.  When Kevin Costner heard “Build it and they will come”, the corn field was NOT referring to websites.
  • I think the traffic suggestions in this video (and video 6) are OK to start with, but probably not enough to get you the traffic you would like to see.  Check out our case study in Lesson 8 for some other traffic methods above and beyond those covered in the videos.
  • I also suggest spending a little more time and thought on the description of your post on Digg.com (and the others in the next lesson).  The key on these sites is to try and get clicks and “votes” for your article.  This is much easier if you have a compelling description that makes folks want to click on the link to read more.
  • As the video states pretty clearly, make sure to bookmark/Digg your article pages (not your homepage).  This is more “natural” and what typical users are more likely to do as well.  I know we keep stating this, but Google likes “natural”.
  • Find other places to submit your RSS feed by doing a search on Google for “submit rss feed”.
    • The great thing about submitting RSS feeds is that you only need to do it one time for each site.  Then it just updates automatically every time you publish a new article.
